In 1240 Swedish army is sailing on the Neva river to conquer the Novgorod state. Swedish send the army because the previous "political" attempts to convince Novgorodians to embrace catholicism failed. Therefore this is not only a military campaign but also a crusade. Young prince Aleksander Yaroslavich finds out about this plan and quickly prepares his small army for the battle.

Allthough they are from different parts of the Soviet Union and of different social statuses they need to learn how to support each other and work together as a team. No one can be left behind. They need to learn all of this because at the end the 9. company forgotten by the retreating Soviet army is fighting their last fight in the Afghan mountains...

Because of an innocent remark about the newspaper cartoon is Mesha (Miki Manojlovic) arrested and sent to work at a mine. His son Malik refers to his absence as father is being on business.

Another character - regular customer, wannabe actress Jamale (Gisele Aouad) is already after her menopause. She is so afraid of ageing, that she even pretends her period. The last but not least is a character of local tailor Rose (Sihame Haddad). She dedicated her life to taking care of her mentally ill older sister Lili(Aziza Semaan)
